ARTIST STATEMENT
I am a Colombian-Canadian emerging artist based in Vancouver, working across painting, drawing, digital media, and performance. My practice delves into themes of memory, identity, and perception, exploring how personal and collective experiences shape our understanding of self and others.
In my visual work, I often focus on the human body, particularly examining the male form through the lens of the male gaze and the influence of social media. Through abstraction, I aim to convey internal states and emotions that are difficult to articulate, using layered textures and fluid forms to evoke sensations akin to blurred memories—vivid in feeling yet elusive in detail.
My digital media and performance pieces emphasize action and repetition, with language and writing at their core. These works provide a platform to reflect on my identity as an immigrant, a Colombian, and a witness to conflict. They allow me to challenge and reflect on communication systems, routine, and the imprint of personal and collective histories.
As an emerging artist, I approach each piece as part of an ongoing exploration, seeking to contribute a fresh and emotionally honest voice to local and global conversations around queerness, cultural identity, and the many ways we construct and reconstruct ourselves. Whether through intimate canvases or conceptual media, my work invites reflection, connection, and emotional resonance.
